British jobs to be supported by American taxpayer

American taxpayers could soon own 40 per cent of what was once the country's most valuable bank.

Citigroup Inc is in talks that could see the U.S. government boost its ownership stake to 40 per cent, according to media reports.

The bank employs some 11,000 people in the UK.

The news came as governments and financial firms in Japan, France and elsewhere announced fresh capital raising today.

Usama Bin Laden's Son Denied Entry Into Egypt

Why is Bin Laden's son and his British wife fleeing England? Does he know something that the rest of us DOES NOT? I would not be too shocked if a major attack happens in England very soon...

CAIRO, Egypt — Egyptian authorities put one of Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden's son on a plane to Qatar on Sunday after denying him entry into the country, a security official at Cairo's airport said.

Omar Osama bin Laden, 27, and his British wife arrived at Cairo International Airport over the weekend after he unsuccessfully tried to seek political asylum in Spain, claiming he would not be safe if he returned to an Arab country. The couple had lived in Egypt for the past year.

Egyptian authorities at the airport decided to deny them entry and instead sent them to the Gulf Arab country of Qatar, said the security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information to the media. It was not known why Egypt denied them entry.

There was no immediate comment from Qatar authorities, and it was not known whether they would be granted entry once they arrived there. It also was unclear why the two had not tried to go to Britain, because the younger bin Laden's wife, Zaina Alsabah, is a British citizen.

LONDON -- British Foreign Secretary David Miliband has said Russia's veto of a United Nations Security Council resolution to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe was "incomprehensible."

"It'll appear incomprehensible to the people of Zimbabwe that Russia, which committed itself at the G8 to take further steps including introducing financial and other sanctions, should stand in the way of Security Council action."

A British security service agent has told the BBC that the Russian state was most likely involved in the 2006 poisoning death of former Russian security officer Aleksandr Litvinenko in London.

The unidentified agent told BBC's "Newsnight" program on July 7 that there were "very strong indications it was a state action." The agent added that "it was the Russian state, not a rogue element."

The allegation went further than any official statement on the matter to date. British investigators have long said they suspect former KGB agent Andrei Lugovoi of the murder and have sought his extradition -- a request that Moscow has steadfastly refused, causing Russian-British relations to deteriorate to a post-Cold War low.
