We have on many occasions at this blog referred to Russia's incremental assembling of a Red Dawn-style military coalition in Latin America. Every week another news report appears to confirm this contention. Moscow and Managua are closing ranks quickly in much the same fashion that the neo-Soviet Union has restored relations with Communist Cuba and established relations with Hugo Chavez's neo-communist regime in Venezuela.
The story below reports that Nicaragua will send 14 soldiers and airmen to Russia for six years of training as helicopter and airplane pilots, tank commanders, and military engineers. This is a small contingent but it is likely the first of many such exchanges of personnel between the two communist states.
