Bread Being Rationed in Martinique, Riots in Guadeloupe

As President Nicolas Sarkozy prepared Tuesday to meet with labor unions and employer representatives to try to head off mounting unrest over France's declining economy, a month-long general strike on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe escalated into widespread rioting, raising fears that political violence would spread to other French territories.

Protesters ransacked shops and torched vehicles in Guadeloupe overnight as a strike over the cost of living escalated, and one senior local official said the island was "on the verge of revolt."

Trees and smoking car wrecks were strewn across streets in Guadeloupe's largest town, Pointe-à-Pitre, and in other areas including Sainte-Rose in the north after a night of clashes between the police and protesters, although no injuries were reported.

Tear gas was fired during a standoff overnight between a group of 60 protesters and two squadrons of riot police, according to the French newspaper Le Monde, which reported that some protesters were armed with shotguns.

Interior Minister Michèle Alliot-Marie issued a statement appealing for "calm, responsibility and restraint." The French government, which last week deployed 100 riot police officers to Guadeloupe, has become worried about violence spreading to other French territories.

French and British Nuclear Submarines Crash

I don't think this is a good thing........YIKES

BRITISH and French nuclear submarines which collided deep under the Atlantic could have sunk or released deadly radioactivity, it emerged last night.

The Royal Navy’s HMS Vanguard and the French Navy’s Le Triomphant are both nuclear powered and were carrying nuke missiles.

Between them they had around 250 sailors on board.

A senior Navy source said: “The potential consequences are unthinkable. It’s very unlikely there would have been a nuclear explosion.

France Bows Down to Russia

History repeating itself once again....

I told you all many times that France would betray us one last time and here it is. I guess Sarkozy saw that the brain dead Americans voted in a weak liberal, so this is just another result of the 2008 election.

The European Union's French presidency has said the bloc is in a position to relaunch Partnership and Cooperation Treaty talks with Moscow that were broken off in the wake of the war between Russia and Georgia.

The announcement by French President Nicolas Sarkozy that Russia has complied with EU demands in Georgia stunned some Eastern European leaders who were in Brussels for an EU crisis summit on the global economy.

The talks are now all but certain to resume on November 14 when the EU and Russia meet for a summit in the French city of Nice.

Russian President Visits France Blasts U.S., Pushes New Security Pact

The TUG O' WAR with Russia over Europe is getting nasty....

This is just building alliances before the World War breaks out, do not be concerned. The Russians have been trying to break up NATO since it's existence...

EVIAN, France (Reuters) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Washington had forfeited its place at the heart of the world order and he called on Europe instead to work with Russia on a new security pact.

Medvedev said the United States had taken unilateral steps -- such as its invasion of Iraq, plans for siting a missile shield in Eastern Europe and NATO expansion -- that smacked of a Cold War mentality and created new dividing lines.

"A desire by the United States to consolidate its global domination led to it missing an historical chance...to build a truly democratic world order," after the September 11, 2001, attacks on U.S. cities, Medvedev said.

"The Warsaw Pact has not existed for almost 20 years. But unfortunately for us at least, the expansion of NATO is being carried out with particular fervor," he said at an international forum in the French resort of Evian.

"Quite naturally, no matter what is being said, we regard these actions as directed against us."

"That all belongs to the past just as Sovietology does. Sovietology, like paranoia, is a very dangerous disease, and it is a pity that part of the U.S. administration still suffers from it," Medvedev said.

Medvedev's tough speech echoed a similar address in Munich last year by his predecessor, Vladimir Putin, which became a cornerstone of Russia's foreign policy and prompted many Western policymakers to talk of a Cold War atmosphere.

Many observers had predicted Medvedev, a former corporate lawyer who took over from Putin in May, would adopt a more conciliatory approach. But his speech demonstrated he shared his predecessor's stance on foreign policy.

Medvedev suggested the United States' economic dominance had contributed to global turmoil on financial markets.

"Even during the '90s the ineffectiveness of the 'unipolar' economic model revealed itself," he said. "And more recently the weakening dollar has created a whole chain of problems."

Russian stock markets have lost almost 70 percent of their value this year -- a steeper fall than in many comparable economies. Investors blame a knock-on effect from problems on U.S. markets and concerns about political risk in Russia.

France took part in 1994 genocide: Rwandan report

BUT the American libtards LOVE France, Bush is the boogeyman...HOW COULD THIS BE?

"French forces directly assassinated Tutsis and Hutus accused of hiding Tutsis... French forces committed several rapes on Tutsi survivors," said a justice ministry statement released after the report was presented in Kigali.

The 500-page report alleged that France was aware of preparations for the genocide, contributed to planning the massacres and actively took part in the killing.
