Bread Lines Seen in California

Many say a depression doesn't have to be great, that the economy can sink into a milder depression. The Salvation Army says it's happening now, and in San Diego County, people are standing in line outside a Salvation Army waiting for donated bread.

Salvation Army director of communications Suzi Woodruff Lacey said they are seeing people from all walks of life: "white collar, blue collar, people who have lost their jobs, people who are in danger of losing their homes."

Bread lines were regularly seen in the 1930s during the Great Depression, when unemployment peaked at more than 25 percent and the stock market lost 90 percent of its value. Today, California's unemployment rate hit 8.4 percent.

Mexican Police Commander Arrested in California for Drug Trafficking

LOS ANGELES: A Mexican federal police commander whose top deputies were gunned down last weekend was charged Friday with possessing more than $500,000 from drug trafficking.

Carlos Cepano Filippini, 34, was one of four people charged with one felony count each of possession of money as part of narcotics trafficking, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said in a statement.

Each faces up to four years in state prison if convicted.

Gov. Schwarzenegger Slashes State Workers Pay to Minimum Wage

The media is burying this story, because it is showing the road that we are heading towards and that is a Socialist Dictatorship and a Police State. This should be all over the news, but it is not. Many of the news sites are reporting about the lay offs, but the workers pay being slashed to minimum wage is being hidden in the story.

I posted a blog about this last week and I did not think that Arnold would have the guts to pull off this maneuver, but I was obviously wrong.

Schwarzenegger threatens minimum wage for workers

SACRAMENTO (AP) - Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is threatening to pay thousands of state employees the federal minimum wage of $6.55 an hour until lawmakers reach a deal on California's overdue state budget.

Communist party membership no longer a fireable offence in California

The California Senate yesterday passed legislation that would delete membership in the Communist party as a reason for firing a public employee, a Cold War-era prohibition intended to root out communists.

Democratic Senator Alan Lowenthal called communism a "failed system," and said his bill - Senate Bill 1322 - was intended to protect "the constitutional freedoms that we have fought so valiantly for," including freedom of political affiliation.
